Cloud-managed cameras with onboard storage and no separate recorder
Cisco Meraki MV cameras record to solid-state storage inside each camera, so a site can be covered without an NVR, a video VLAN, or a server room.

Official documentation
Cisco describes MV as a line of indoor and outdoor networked cameras that are simple to deploy and configure, using cloud-augmented edge storage. The practical consequence is architectural: footage is retained on the camera itself and the dashboard handles search and sharing, so there is no network video recorder to specify, rack, power, or replace. For a small site or a distributed estate of small sites, that removes most of the infrastructure a traditional camera project would carry.
The indoor range covers the MV2 flex camera, the MV12 and MV13 mini domes, the MV22 and MV23 varifocal domes, and the MV32 and MV33 fisheye models for whole-room coverage from a single ceiling position. The outdoor range covers the MV52 and MV53X bullets, the MV63 and MV73 mini domes and domes, the MV84X multi-imager for wide perimeter runs, and the MV93 outdoor fisheye. Fixed-lens models are the right choice where the scene is known and will not change; varifocal models let the field of view be tuned at install time, which matters in corridors, car parks, and any space where the mounting position is constrained by the building rather than by the shot.
Onboard storage capacity is the axis buyers most often miss. Meraki encodes it in the model suffix — the M and X variants carry larger solid-state capacity than the base model of the same camera — and capacity, not licence tier, is what determines how many days of footage a camera holds before it overwrites. Retention also depends on scene activity and resolution, so a published day figure is a ceiling rather than a guarantee. HTS quotes MV against your required retention window, the lighting and mounting conditions at each position, and whether any position genuinely needs the higher-capacity variant. Cameras require a Meraki licence for the term you intend to operate them, and that licence must co-terminate with your existing dashboard organisation.
How to choose
- Indoor (MV2, MV12, MV13, MV22, MV23, MV32, MV33) versus outdoor-rated (MV52, MV53X, MV63, MV73, MV84X, MV93)
- Form factor: mini dome, dome, bullet, fisheye for whole-room coverage, or MV84X multi-imager for wide runs
- Fixed lens for a known scene versus varifocal where the mounting position is constrained
- Onboard storage tier — the M and X suffixes carry more solid-state capacity and so hold more days
- Required retention window measured against real scene activity, not the published maximum
